Hustled Happiness

Happiness is often seen as something that just happens to us—something influenced by people, circumstances, or luck. But the truth is, our happiness is our own responsibility. Relying on others to bring us joy is a risky gamble because external factors are never fully in our control. Instead of waiting for happiness to find us, we must learn to hustle for it, to actively seek and create joy in our lives.

If we depend on others to make us happy, we may find ourselves waiting endlessly. True happiness comes from within, and sometimes, we have to put in the effort to cultivate it. It may seem challenging at first, but making an attempt is always better than remaining stuck in a cycle of disappointment.

I’ve personally experienced moments where I unknowingly handed over the key to my happiness to someone else—waiting for them to do or say something that would uplift my mood. The result? Nothing changed for anyone except me. Everyone around me continued enjoying their lives, while I was left feeling empty. That’s when I realized that I needed to reclaim my happiness, to put in the effort to find joy even in the smallest things.

Taking charge of your happiness doesn’t mean ignoring struggles or pretending everything is perfect. It means actively choosing to focus on what uplifts you rather than what drags you down. Whether it’s pursuing a passion, surrounding yourself with positivity, or simply choosing to smile despite hardships—every small step makes a difference.

And yes, it’s easier said than done. But what’s the harm in trying? Even a single effort to shift our mindset can brighten our day.

If you’ve ever worked hard to create your own happiness, you know how fulfilling it is. And if you haven’t yet, maybe it’s time to take that first step. Because in the end, happiness isn’t something to wait for—it’s something to hustle for.
