Manifesting Dreams: How Creative Visualisation Changed My Life

What is Creative Visualisation?

We’ve all heard about creative visualisation. According to the definition found online, “Creative visualisation is a specific way of using your imagination. It’s a cognitive process that involves forming vivid mental images. You consciously change these images, which, in turn, alters your emotions. As you practise visualising the future you want, you begin to create that future.”

There are numerous books and countless articles on this topic, offering guidance on how to incorporate it into your daily life. But how many of us truly believe in it? Have you ever tried it? It sounds intriguing, doesn’t it? But once you begin, no matter how things are unfolding, it’s important not to give up halfway. Believe, and you shall achieve.

During my final year of post-graduation, I decided to try this method for the first time. Like many others, I aspired to land a good job after finishing my studies. Every night before bed, I would close my eyes and visualise myself getting ready in the morning, heading out for work, and entering the office building. I imagined the security guard at the entrance greeting me, and I would nod in acknowledgment. I saw myself logging in and beginning my day at work. I replayed this sequence in my mind every night before sleep. Amazingly, I secured a job even before my final exams were over. Everything turned out exactly as I had envisioned.

The second time I used creative visualisation was during a challenging period when I had difficulties conceiving. If you’ve read my article “Miracles Happen,” you’ll know about my journey to motherhood (Click link here to read the article – https://akshatashanbhag.com/pcos/ ) At one point, everyone around me had lost hope. The final blow came when, after a failed IVF attempt, the doctor told me that I could never conceive with my eggs due to their poor quality. They warned that even if I did, the child might be born with mental or physical challenges. The only option, they said, was to use a donor egg.

My journey to becoming a mother lasted nearly six years. We tried everything under the sun with a positive mindset, but every attempt failed. Then I remembered the technique of creative visualisation that had worked for me before, and I decided to try it again. I felt deep inside that I would have a child of my own, and this optimism fueled my resolve.

As before, every night, I would close my eyes and imagine myself taking a home pregnancy test. I envisioned the two pink lines indicating a positive result and then running to my husband, hugging him, and sharing the joyous news that we were pregnant.

With each failed attempt to conceive, my visualisation became even stronger. I refused to let failure dampen my imagination. Every single night, for years, I kept visualising despite the circumstances. It took much longer this time, but I never lost hope. Even after all treatments were stopped due to repeated failures and there was nothing left to try, I held onto the belief that I would naturally conceive.

Then one day, I took the test, and, as if on autopilot, the same series of events unfolded just as I had visualised—except this time, I had no idea it would actually be positive.

A dear friend gifted me a collage photo frame for my birthday. The first time I saw it, I knew that one day it would hang on the wall with my child’s picture in it, so I placed it back in the box. I could clearly envision the wall where it would go, and I even shared this with my friend. After my daughter was born, I took out that frame, filled it with her photos, and hung it exactly where I had imagined. To this day, it still hangs there.

Sometimes, it takes time for your creative visualisation to manifest, but it’s important not to lose hope or give up. Patience is key, as the universe works in its own timing. Trust the process and continue visualising with faith and conviction. Every setback is just a step closer to your goal, and persistence will eventually bring your vision into reality. Keep believing, even when the results seem far away, because consistency and a positive mindset can turn dreams into achievements.

The power to shape our future lies in our hands—whether through creative visualisation or simply by maintaining the right attitude toward life.

You never know what’s possible until you try it for yourself. Have faith and give it a shot.

“Every moment of your life is infinitely creative, and the universe is endlessly bountiful. Just put forth a clear enough request, and everything your heart truly desires must come to you.” —Shakti Gawain
