When Nostalgia Finds You: An Evening at My Old College

Nostalgia… I’m sure we all feel it. Those good old days—just a thought can make us feel like we’ve time-travelled for a few seconds, wrapped in sweet memories.

Last Sunday, I visited the college where I did my PUC (11th and 12th) to attend a program in which my mother was participating in a fashion show (seniors group). I wanted to cheer for her. As a kid, seeing my parents in the audience while I performed on stage filled me with immense joy. This time, I felt like reversing the roles.

I’d driven past the college countless times over the years, always when it was closed, and the security guard would ask me to come during working hours—which was difficult since I lived far away. Maybe that’s why they say everything happens at the right time. So when I finally got the chance to enter, I grabbed it—not just to watch my mom on stage, but also to revisit the campus.

Stepping inside after 23 long years felt surreal. I couldn’t go into the classrooms since they were locked, but I wandered through every accessible corner. Suddenly, tiny scenes from college life flashed before my eyes—conversations, laughter, quiet moments—and all of them brought an involuntary smile to my face.

The program was lovely, my mom shone on stage, and my evening ended on a beautiful note. It felt like life had handed me a small, unexpected gift—a chance to pause, remember, and reconnect with who I once was.
